About the Role
We are partnering with a respected national firm seeking a compassionate and driven Abuse Lawyer to join their Perth office. This is an exceptional opportunity for a solicitor with 2–3 years post-admission experience who wants to make a meaningful difference by advocating for survivors of institutional and historical abuse. You’ll be part of a supportive team working on sensitive, high-impact matters, helping clients navigate complex legal processes with empathy and expertise.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Legal Work:
• Manage a varied caseload of historical and institutional abuse claims from initial consultation through to resolution
• Conduct client conferences, prepare detailed statements, and gather supporting evidence
• Draft pleadings, advices, and settlement documents tailored to client needs
• Brief counsel and engage with expert witnesses as required
• Represent clients at mediations and informal settlement conferences
Client Care & Communication:
• Provide trauma-informed support and clear guidance to clients throughout their matters
• Maintain regular communication with clients, keeping them informed of progress and next steps
• Liaise with insurers, defendants, and other stakeholders in a professional manner
Team & Administrative Support:
• Collaborate with partners, senior lawyers, and support staff to achieve positive outcomes
• Maintain accurate file records, time recording, and compliance with court deadlines
• Contribute to team knowledge sharing and mentoring junior staff where appropriate
What We’re Looking For
Experience:
• 2–3 years post-admission experience, ideally in personal injury, institutional abuse, or plaintiff litigation
• Previous exposure to sensitive or trauma-related matters will be highly regarded
Skills:
• Excellent drafting and analytical skills, with a strategic approach to negotiations and settlements
• Strong organisational abilities with the capacity to handle competing deadlines
• Comfortable working autonomously while also contributing to a collaborative team
Personal Qualities:
• Compassionate, patient, and able to support vulnerable clients with sensitivity
• High level of professional integrity and discretion
