We are partnering with a well-established national law firm to recruit an Associate or Senior Associate to join its Environment & Planning practice in Melbourne.
This is an excellent opportunity for a planning and environment lawyer to work on high-profile development projects and complex regulatory matters within a growing and well-regarded team.
About the Role
This position sits within a highly regarded Environment & Planning team advising a diverse client base, including major property developers, renewable energy operators, and government bodies. The successful candidate will gain exposure to a wide range of planning, environmental, and land use matters.
The role offers a strong mix of advisory and front-end project work, as well as exposure to disputes and proceedings in relevant tribunals and courts. You will work closely with senior practitioners on complex approvals and strategic matters, while developing strong client relationships.
Key responsibilities include:
· Advising on planning, environment, and land use matters
· Managing and supporting development approval processes
· Assisting with matters in tribunals and courts, including planning disputes
· Advising on regulatory frameworks and compliance issues
· Drafting legal advice, submissions, and documentation
· Working closely with clients on major development and infrastructure projects
· Building and maintaining strong client relationships
· Collaborating with colleagues across practice areas
· Mentoring junior lawyers (for Senior Associate level)
About You
· 5+ years’ post-qualification experience in environment and planning law
· Experience across advisory and/or disputes work in planning and environment
· Familiarity with approval processes and relevant tribunals or court proceedings
· Strong drafting, analytical, and problem-solving skills
· Ability to manage competing priorities and work both independently and within a team
· Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
· Interest in sectors such as property development, renewables, or natural resources
· Interest in mentoring and developing junior team members (for senior candidates)
