We’re partnering with a top-tier national law firm that is looking for an Associate or Senior Associate to join its Tax Disputes team in Melbourne. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax lawyer ready to step up and work on some of the most complex and high-profile tax matters in the market, within a highly collaborative national practice.
The role sits within a well-established Tax team working across income tax advisory and disputes, including ATO engagements and litigation. You’ll be exposed to a broad mix of advisory, transactional, and contentious work, with the chance to collaborate across multiple practice groups and offices.
What you’ll be doing:
· Advising on income tax matters across complex transactions and projects
· Assisting clients with tax disputes, including audits, objections, ATO engagement, ADR, and litigation
· Providing commercially focused, technically sound tax advice
· Supporting clients through private and class rulings, FIRB approvals, reviews, and audits
· Working closely with counsel and leading members of the tax bar on opinions and disputes
· Collaborating with other practice areas such as Corporate, M&A, Banking & Finance, Funds, Real Estate, and Disputes
· Managing matters independently and contributing to larger, multi-disciplinary matters
· Building strong client relationships and contributing to business development
What we’re looking for:
· Experience in tax law, ideally within a recognised specialist or large law firm practice
· Exposure to tax advisory, transactional work, and/or tax controversy
· Strong technical, drafting, and analytical skills
· Ability to manage matters autonomously while working collaboratively in a team
· Client-facing experience with a commercial mindset
· Motivation to learn, develop, and mentor junior lawyers
Why join this team:
· Permanent role within a leading national tax practice
· Access to complex, market-leading tax work across advisory and disputes
· Clear and transparent career development framework
· Ongoing learning, mentoring, and professional development opportunities
· Flexible hybrid working arrangements
· Market-competitive remuneration with incentive-based rewards
· Comprehensive wellbeing, leave, and lifestyle benefits
· Inclusive, high-performing culture that values diversity and contribution
If you’re looking to take the next step in your tax career and work within a team that values excellence, collaboration, and long-term growth, we’d love to hear from you.
