About the Role
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Medical Negligence Lawyer to join our growing team in Sydney or Parramatta. This is an exciting opportunity for a solicitor with a strong interest in healthcare-related litigation to work on complex and meaningful cases involving medical error, misdiagnosis, surgical negligence, and more. You will be managing a diverse caseload and working closely with both clients and medical experts to secure just outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Case Management & Legal Advice:
- Managing a caseload of medical negligence claims from initial consultation to resolution.
- Providing clear and compassionate legal advice to clients on their rights and potential claims.
- Preparing legal documentation including statements of claim, particulars, briefs to counsel, and expert reports.
Client & Expert Engagement:
- Building strong, trusting relationships with clients navigating traumatic medical experiences.
- Liaising with medical experts to obtain and assess professional opinions and evidence.
- Coordinating with barristers, insurers, and health institutions to advance claims.
Litigation & Advocacy:
- Representing clients in settlement conferences, mediations, and court proceedings where required.
- Working alongside senior solicitors and counsel in complex litigation involving hospitals, private clinics, and health professionals.
Compliance & Administration:
- Maintaining accurate file documentation in accordance with firm and regulatory standards.
- Ensuring deadlines and court requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner.
What We’re Looking For
Experience:
- A current NSW Practising Certificate.
- 2–7 years of post-admission experience in medical negligence or broader personal injury law.
- Experience managing sensitive and complex litigation involving personal trauma and medical issues.
Skills:
- Strong legal drafting, research, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, particularly in high-emotion environments.
- Proficiency in case management systems (LEAP or similar).
Personal Qualities:
- Empathetic, resilient, and client-focused with a high level of emotional intelligence.
- Organised and detail-oriented with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- A team player with a collaborative and solution-focused approach.
