The Principal/Special Counsel will head the Property Law team and manage a diverse portfolio of property-related legal matters. The role involves providing strategic legal advice, managing client relationships, and driving the growth of the Property Law practice. You will be part of a broader practice group and collaborate closely with other departments to provide comprehensive legal solutions.

Firm Overview: We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established legal firm with a strong reputation in Property Law. Our client is seeking an experienced Principal/Special Counsel to lead their Property Law practice. This is a key leadership position with the opportunity to drive the future direction of the Property Law team and further develop the practice.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Team Management
- Lead and manage the Property Law team, including mentoring junior lawyers and ensuring high standards of legal service.
- Collaborate with a shared legal secretary and paralegal for administrative and procedural support.
- Drive team performance and foster a culture of excellence.
Client Management and Business Development
- Act as the primary point of contact for key property clients, including developers, investors, and corporations.
- Provide strategic legal advice on a broad range of property-related matters, including acquisitions, sales, leasing, developments, and compliance with property law regulations.
- Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships and identify opportunities to expand the client base.
Property Law Expertise
- Oversee complex property transactions, including commercial, retail, and industrial properties.
- Advise clients on large-scale developments, property structuring, and leasing matters.
- Manage property disputes and resolve issues efficiently to meet client objectives.
Practice Growth and Development
- Lead business development efforts, leveraging existing relationships and bringing a practice and/or team with you, if desired.
- Identify growth opportunities within the property sector and actively seek new business.
- Work closely with the leadership team to align team efforts with broader firm goals and objectives.
Collaboration with Other Practice Areas
- Work with other practice areas such as litigation, banking, and finance to provide clients with comprehensive legal solutions.
- Collaborate on multi-disciplinary projects involving property law, ensuring smooth integration of services across the firm.
Qualifications and Experience
- Admitted as a solicitor in Australia with significant experience in property law, particularly at the Principal or Special Counsel level.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team and provide mentorship to junior staff.
- Proven expertise in handling complex property transactions and providing strategic advice.
- A portable practice or existing client base that can be brought to the firm is highly desirable.
- Strong business development skills, with a focus on building and maintaining long-term client relationships.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with other practice areas.
